Is it coincidence that Kora started channeling her inner Lynda Carter with the release of the new Wonder Woman movie or did someone sneak her to see the movie without me knowing?

Ever since she turned three, she thinks she is sooooooo big.  She likes to stand up tall, puff out her chest, show off her muscles and tell me that she’s “big and brave and strong and tough!”.

She has recently become adamant that she’s doesn’t need help getting dressed in the morning. If I start to help her she forcefully tells me “No, I’m a girl. I can do it.”  And she’s right.  She is a girl, and she can do it!

I’m not sure where she got this “I’m a girl; I can do it” attitude, but I love it.  There are so many times where girls are made to feel like they are incapable of doing certain things just because of their gender.  I want my girls to know that they are capable of anything they set their minds to.

Want to be a doctor? I’m a girl. I can do it.

Want to be a chef? I’m a girl. I can do it.

Want to be a firefighter? I’m a girl. I can do it.

Want to be {insert any other profession here}. I’m a girl. I can do it.

Want to get dressed by yourself? I’m a girl. I can do it.

(FYI: The three professions above are the three things Kora has told me she wants to be when she grows up.)

I will continue to encourage this girl power as Kora and her little sister grow. I will encourage my girls to be strong and independent; confident and courageous.  It’s an everyday challenge trying to raise two Wonder Women, but I’m a girl.  I can do it.
